Water-based inkjet printing on corrugated board

For a box, print speed per sheet, corrugated-board type, and finished-packaging requirements all matter. IDERA uses water-based pigment inks for direct, single-pass printing on corrugated board.

Applications

IDERA water-based inkjet printing is aimed at transport and consumer corrugated packaging with short runs and design variants. The image is applied to the corrugated sheet after it has been made, without printing plates.

Why primer and varnish matter

Xeikon specifies printing on both coated and uncoated corrugated board, with the option of integrated application of a water-based primer and varnish. Whether they are needed depends on the board, the required image, and subsequent operations.

What to check for a food box

Xeikon describes IDERA AT inks as water-based and compliant with the cited guideline requirements for food packaging. This applies to the described post-print corrugated-board solution and does not confirm direct contact between the printed surface and food. Check print location, board, primer, varnish, barrier, and tests of the finished box.

Basis: Xeikon IDERA product page and Corrugated Packaging section; specifications and compliance should be confirmed for the specific configuration.
