## Format and application

A pouch is a multi-layer package made from film, foil and other materials. Its shape depends on size, purpose and required functionality. A stand-up pouch with a bottom gusset remains upright when filled and stands out on the shelf.

Application guide Graphic Arts 2020-ENG, p. 19

## Why brands choose this format

The guide gives a product-to-packaging weight ratio of 35:1 and associates lightweight flexible packaging with lower energy use in production and transport compared with a move from rigid packaging.

## Where digital printing helps

More SKUs, shorter lead times and the popularity of pouches drive demand for just-in-time production, design variants and rapid language adaptation. Multiple versions can be printed in one run, with variable data added in colour.

Application guide Graphic Arts 2020-ENG, p. 19

## Capabilities cited in the guide

The guide cites no start-up or job-change costs on the same substrate, high print quality, and a flexographic crossover run length from 4 000 linear metres. This crossover figure is stated in the brochure.
